Our History

On October 15, 2002, Dr. Lynette Chandler established the White Clay Immersion School.

Initially, it started as a before and after-school program but later evolved into a full-day school by August 2005. The program was not originally intended to become a school until around 2004.

However, due to Dr. Chandler's hard work, determination, and strong desire to preserve the Aaniiih Language, she was able to turn her dream into reality two years earlier than anticipated.

Feeling the urgency to save the Aanilih Language, she was driven to work even harder and faster, knowing that this was the crucial moment for the language's survival. Today, the White Clay Immersion School currently houses 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the A'aniiih Immersion School is to teach young children to be fluent in the White Clay Language. The school exists for one purpose: To create fluent White Clay Speakers who utilize our language in a modernistic manner benefiting the White Clay Tribe, Fort Belknap Reservation, and themselves. The school promotes and demands high academic standards and values. The White Clay Language is the main vehicle of communication and teaching. Therefore, the White Clay value system serves as the guide for all activities in the schools.
