This July, ANC is launching a new week-long course focused on science storytelling with an emphasis in journalistic writing, photography, and documentary filmmaking.
The NSF funded pilot course - Introduction to Science Communication will take place July 20–24 at ANC and is open to students attending Tribal colleges across the state. During the course, students will learn how to tell compelling STEM stories through writing, visual storytelling and video production while working on real-world projects connected to research happening at ANC.
Students will learn:
Science journalism and storytelling
Interviewing and story development
Documentary filmmaking and video editing
Photojournalism and visual storytelling
Journalism ethics
How to communicate science to public audiences
Participants will create their own stories, short documentaries, and photo essays throughout the week.
This pilot course is limited to 12 participants and includes:
Daily stipend
Travel support for students coming to ANC
A MacBook for each participant to keep
We’re excited to bring together students interested in storytelling, media, research, and science and from working journalists and storytellers.
